Happy 62nd to Israel!
So I mentioned in a previous post that Ari and I had planned a bbq at 11 so that we could go dancing and partying first. Oops- should have reversed them.
This year I learned that one should have a BBQ at 7:30 and then go out partying and dancing till 3 am...next year!
Here is what happened- we got to where the dancing was at 8:30 to see that the concert that was preceeding it had not even begun. Then we went to Ben Yehuda Street to see that it was just starting to get lively. There were costumes, partiotism in headbands and capes, inflatable hammers and silly string/shaving cream. We left about 10 to get home and get ready.
One of the coolest things is that they use the Egged busses as blockades around the center of town so that the partying can spill into the streets.
After we headed back to a park across from my apartment so that we could start the grills, we heard the Israeli dance music begin. 11pm. darn! Then to rub it in- some of those invited to the bbq did not show up until 1 am because they went to the dancing. By 2, it was too late to clean-up and head back the 45 minutes to the dancing since it was set to end at 3. As I said- now we know for next year.
Also the next day, we visited with a past roommate of mine and her family and then went to a bbq with friends of ours- both in Petach Tikvah. Then to the future in-laws and back home to crash and get ready for school.
