The absurd in Israel...in photos...

1) The Hobbit- On Yom Haatzmaut, Ari got all patriotic and wore a shirt that he got as a Bar Mitzvah gift. I told him that he could wear it to the wedding- it makes me smile...but he should expect me there holding a camera...

2) Palmistry- I took this photo two Fridays ago while walking through a flea-market type fair. I love how intensely the guy is looking at his left hand while comparing it to the chart and while balancing the cigarette with his right hand.

3) The Bar Mitzvah Boy- I was near the Kotel on a Thursday morning and saw quite a few of these processions with drummers on their way down the steps to the kotel. Please notice how excited the
kid looks. If you had trouble spotting the "boy who is today a man", he is wearing the shades, the jeans and the pink tie.

4) The medicine man. This elderly gentleman was sitting next to me on the bus from Jerusalem to Rishon L'zion. I thought that he was using the whip to keep the flies away and it must have worked because I did not see a single one!

5) Southbeach and Ice Cream. This billboard cracked me up as it was both for Nestle ice cream and southbeach (diet?)

6) Cell Phones- I know that it is a very Israeli joke that Israeli children are born with a phone attached to their heads and that sometimes at their bar mitzvahs, they get a second, but this was something that I had never quite seen before. I guess it was important to have a cell phone and not have left it on a public bus like I did... (I did manage to get it back). This sign is so that you can take the cell-phone walking tour. Please note that normal air rates apply but you do not need to actually be in Tiberias to learn all about the archeaological park. Please note that if calling from the states, you would need to dial 011-972-50-800-0222 x201.

7) Speling- I love the gross misspellings on almost everything. These icee machines were chosen because almost every word was misspelled. Please see if you can try reading them and understanding what flavor they are without using the assistance of the Hebrew...answers are below.
A- KOKTEL- Coctail/Fruit Medley, APEL- Apple, LAMON- Lemon
B- KANDI- Candy/Bubble Gum, 2RAPES- Grape, MENGO- Mango
C- ICE COFFE- Ice Coffee, ICE COCS- Ice Coconut (did you go there?...shame on you!)

8)Boardwalk Art- Here was part of a poster of the Tiberias vowels. hm... because that is not weird...

9) Specimen in the Sky- Why would it be weird that there was a manikin in the sky above a gutted building...sometimes you have to look up to see the beauty in something...although I also wonder if he was cold...

10) It sownds lik it iz riten. I think that they ran out of some of the letter decals or have no clue. Maybe they should start formal English before 4th grade...

  1. Did you mis-spell spelling on purpose (in the Tveria shot)?
