This morning, at 6:30am I made french toast. I wanted to get my first day of school off to a good start. Went to minyan at Machon Schechter and then proceeded to yawn through a 9 hour day (would have been 11 but I am not taking history this semester). After a very long minyan (hallel, torah reading and musaf for Rosh Chodesh) I took a tour of the building and then had Talmud till lunch. Packing lunch is a goal for the semester/year. There is a fridge for students and I bought a Ben10 lunch case. Then I studied Mishnayot with JB till mincha and then was time for liturgy. We are required to attend 3 and encouraged to attend many more different services this semester. One that I am hoping to get to at some point is a Sephardi shul in Nachlaot that has bakashot from 3-7am. Yes, you read that correctly- AM!
The classes were good, some repetition of previous courses but hopefully they will still be a challenge. Otherwise, I will ask for additional or different work. I have added 3 classes in Halakha for the semester. It is exciting to have the ability to take courses that I am interested in. I am registered for a class on teshuvot regarding education from communities of the Ottoman Empire and Islamic lands, issues in the writings of the commentators, and collections of teshuvot during the period of the Holocaust. I am very excited to take these courses in Hebrew!
