Winter Vacation 2010: Day 10

16.2.10

Another travel day. Woke up this morning at 8 and read and finished packing before heading back to "The Corner" for breakfast. My cheese omelet, the first time was a ham omelet. I went to cut it as soon as I got it and throught that it looked strange so I opened it up. Good Save Aviva! I sent it back and then had a yummy cheesy omelet.

Thren it was back to the hotel where I rested for 45 minutes before we checked out of the Kavil Guesthouse. We went to the Baan Thai Cookery School across the street because Yo wanted to know how they prepared the coconut for the fried banana. They did not understand her question and ended up going across the street and getting the woman who ran the front desk of our hostel to come and translate. It was very funny. Turns out, you scrape the coconut out of the inside and chop it up. Then we went to the internet place and I got to skype with Ari- actually see him and talk to him!

We caught a cab to the airport- one of the red, opened back ones with the side benches for 50 Baht each. Then we checked in- we were behind a very "special" pair of Israelis who made it take forever and then got Dairy Queen ice cream (small cone dipped in chocolate- like some of the mummys that Mrs. Friedman taught me about in 6th grade) and are the cheese sandwiched that we had ordered "to-go" from "The Corner."

As we were sitting in the airport, Yo comments- "They're like ameobas..." while referring to the Israelis who seemed to materialize out of nowhere and kept multiplying. From almost a whole week without Israelis (with the exception of Chabad), it seemed like half of the people waiting for the flight were speaking Hebrew. I wanted to refer to them as bacteria.

When we landed in Ko Samoi (of course I sat next to an Israeli-from Rechovot), it was 94 degrees (33 Celcius). We got our bags and bought tickets for a minibus to take us to our hotel, The Loft. The place that we are in seems to be a haven for Israelis (signs everywhere saying #1 place). We would have to disagree as our room has mold growing through the walls, the fan is very dusty, the sheets have rainbow colored stains, and there are tons of mosquitos.

We did not want to stay in the room but we had booked online and there were no other rooms. When we went to complain and use the free internet in the lobby, we saw them sending people away since they were full. We dropped our stuff in the room, changed into beach clothes and walked 5 minutes to the beach. I went in the water first and then it was Yo's turn. I sat in the sand with our stuff. An hour later we showered, got dressed and went out to dinner. We ended up at an Israeli place with "kosher" food. They served both milk and meat. Dinner was not so satisfying. Then we walked around, got ice cream cones and walked slowly back to our room- trying to delay the inevitable. We watched an episode of HOUSE and I fell asleep.

Wake up in the morning is 6:30 am. Pick up for the ferry is at 7.
