Today, we walked from Emek Refaim to French Hill and back. Devora was reading torah at Ramot Zion (the masorti shul on French Hill near the dorms for Hebrew University) and had also invited us for lunch. It was a beautiful day that left us both with more prominent sandal tans and ready for a great nap.
Some highlights:
- Devora read Torah (three aliyot and so we all got honors)
- Abba led shacharit and I led musaf (this makes my leading musaf two weeks in a row)
- Birthday cake at lunch for a non-birthday
- And the icing on the cake: I had heard about the crazy Jews who on Shabbat yell at cars that drive past but I had never seen it. Well I can't say that anymore... Today, on the walk home, Ari and I were at a busy intersection right outside of the general Mea Shearim area and we saw 6 kids holding hands at the intersection. Two of the boys were post bar mitzvah age and were wearing the white-ish robes and the fur shtreimels (aka-lawn mowers because they look like they need to be mowed). There were three other boys (about 12, 7, and 4) wearing suits and wearing big white Na-Nach-Nachma-Nachman Meuman kippot. And there was one little girl in the middle about 1.5. We were wondering why they were not at the crosswalk if they were ready to cross the street but then as we got closer we started to hear it....
Shabbos, Shabbos...
I guess their parents wanted to nap and sent them out to "entertain themselves"...
I would have loved to have captured this on video but alas, it was Shabbat.
