I remember my father telling me when I was younger about the pair of friends who were sitting on a bus and a large woman got on. The first turned to the second and said in Hebrew- Yossi, Ulai Tazuz u'Ten LaParah Lashevet (Yossi, why don't you move and let the cow sit). The woman then turns to the first and says "Ulai HaParah Lo Rotzah Lashevet" (Maybe the cow doesn't want to sit). In short- be careful what you say, regardless of the language, because you do not know who can understand.
So here is another cow story-
In preparing for my finals, I was reading a Teshuva (question for a rabbi regarding a legal conundrum) with Ari and he starts laughing....really hard! What is it? Well, he answers, here is the text:
When the son, who studies at a Jewish-secular school returns home at noon to find that his lunch is not ready yet, he kicks the fat cow, who is his mother...
And you might have thought that this kid was from the Upper West Side. Nope, Jerusalem in 1968. Please note that this is a warning (in the teshuva) against sending your children to Jewish-secular schools and instructing that they would be better individuals if sent to a Yeshiva.
...I am a little sad that I can't ask Grumpy (ז'ל) his opinion on this one...
