Purim is coming...

This afternoon, Ari and I headed to the mall to get him a winter hat and gloves. It is a lot colder in Jerusalem than it is in Rishon and Ari was not prepared. I blame in on the Israeli army.

Ari runs the risk of getting a ticket and fined if when he runs his fingers through his hair, the hair extends beyond the width of his fingers. When I first met Ari, his hair was short. Last night I found out that two weeks before, it was much shorter. (For those of you who knew me in 1999, this brought back memories of my own head- now I can vicariously have buzzed hair through Ari.) Last night, we buzzed Ari's head. Ari did most and then I fixed it.

Here is a photo taken a few hours after the shaving.

No fines for Ari- but yes the need for a winter hat.

So in going through the mall, we stopped in every store that had men's clothes and found nothing...that we were looking for. We did find purim costumes!

Outside of one of the toy/tchatchka stores were racks of purim costumes. The ones in the front happened to be of a High Priest variety. There was the robe in light blue, the crown in gold, and the breastplate of the....10 commandments? That's right- no jewels- the 10 commandments. There were also that spanned from naughty boxers (not the underwear although the costume did resemble something that should be worn only under something else) to bee tights and gloves. I guess the US holoween has influenced Israeli holiday costumes. I think that I will look for a costume in Thailand. Any suggestions?
