Were your parents also of the sort that I see as so common today where the parents place the infant seat backwards in the front passenger seat? Were you one of those kids?
When I was your age, my parents would not let me sit in the front- not until I was 12ish.
Maybe it's safer if you walk yourself to school. Kudos!

I still feel weird about sitting in the front passenger seat of my parents' car. Illicit somehow. But in Israel I feel weird being in a car at all! Oy gevalt...
