People of the Book

Last night, I went with Abba to Shavuah Hasefer, Israeli national book week! Let me just start by saying it was one of the coolest things that I have done in Israel. For a week or so each year, there are book festivals throughout the country. This means major sales and the releasing of new titles. Last night, there were thousands of people looking at, reading, and buying books in Gan Hapaamon. I felt like a kid with only a few baseball cards who wants lots more. If you are in Israel, I suggest that you go. It is open from 6-11pm.

Some highlights:

- This year, I have taken 4 amazing midrash courses with Dr. Tamar Kadari. Often in her classes, she would distribute cartoon strips by Shai Charka (check out his English blog or political cartoons and others here: http://translatedcharka.blogspot.com/). I thought that they were great and often really catpured the essence of the Midrash. So last night at the fair, I found his books for buy one, get two free! I bought 2 and went home with 6 (well...really 4 because I gave 2 to abba as a present).

- A little kid tells his father; "Abba, ein lanu et ze babayit." ("Daddy, we don't have this one at home.")

- There are musical and theater performances for the children.

- Talking to Ari on the phone and having him ask if we can go back together on Thursday. OF COURSE WE CAN!
