Woke up before my alarm and read until Yo’s alarm went off. Then got up and showered and woke Yo up to go shower. Then I finished repacking and went downstairs with our packs. Checked out of the Same Same and waited for the car to come and pick us up. The car came and took us to the Baan Thai Cookery School. It was awesome! We had a good group of 2 brits (2 couples), an Austrian and a French man, Yo and I. We made friends with the Brits right away. It made the day so much more enjoyable. We began by splitting up and Yo and I learned how to carve vegetables- little eggplants, chilies, scallions, cukes, tomatoes and carrots.
It was great and while we were carving, the rest of the group went to the market. When they returned, we ate all sorts of local foods, fruits, bananas and sticky rice, dragonfruit, guava, corn gel stuff, rose apple, and langan (a pod that you break open and eat the gooey paste around the seeds). I documented all of the cooking and promised to send photos to our new British friends.
Then it was time to really start cooking. We wore bandanas and aprons and I started with Fried noodle- Thai style (Pad Thai) and then made spring rolls.
Then hot and sour soup.
Everything that we made, we ate. I was so full by the time that we made curry (I chose green curry).
I ran across the street to our hotel (since we had moved that morning) and grabbed the tupperwear containers that we had with us- courtesy of Ari and Esther to pack up the green curry with tofu, some of the spring rolls and the dessert or mango and sticky rice.
At the end, we came across the street and checked into our room. 1 bed! (but private bathroom). Then we dumped our stuff and went out to internet and find a quiet place to journal but were not able to find the journal spot before it got dark. We tried to find our hostel- eventually we found it but not before getting lost and stopping to ask 3 people.
When we got back, we sat downstairs to journal but took a break to watch Al Jazeera (English) and to talk to a couple of guys traveling from Wales and to an older couple with three grown sons who have all traveled. The couple does business selling jewelry in England that they purchase here. Now I am waiting for Yo to finish in the shower so that I can have my turn.
